Microsoft to unveil new Surface series of laptops on Oct 12

Microsoft to unveil new Surface series of laptops

Microsoft had sent invites on Thursday for an October 12 event. On that day, the tech giant would unveil new Surface hardware products. The event would start at 7:30 pm. The company wrote in the invitation to “Watch live to see what‘s next.” The Redmond tech giant always holds its fall events in October, where it usually reveals Surface-branded computers. Last year, the company unveiled the Surface Pro 9, Surface Laptop Studio, Surface Go 3, Surface Pro X and Surface Duo 2.

For the current year lineup, the analysts and insiders expect the debut of at least 4 to 5 new products, including the Surface Pro 9, Surface Laptop 5, and Surface Studio 3 desktop computer.
The Surface Pro 9 would continue to be Microsoft’s mainstream hybrid computer and would be the star of the show. The Pro line had a significant update last year, and Surface Pro 9 will be launched next month. Microsoft is also planning to offer the Surface Pro 9 in both Intel and ARM-based models, which would signal the end of the Surface Pro X line.

The company would still need to work a lot on perfecting window experiences on devices powered by ARM-based chips. They depend heavily on Qualcomm, the mobile chipmaker bringing ARM processors to PC. Microsoft and Qualcomm are currently nowhere close to delivering the same level of experience that one can get on a Mac. Apple is currently using custom M-series ARM-based chips inside its Mac computer. Their M-series chips are well received by both critics and consumers alike.

It is also expected that Microsoft would also announce the Surface Laptop 5 and Surface Studio 3 computers at the event. The Surface Studio 3 is aimed at enthusiasts and designers. It would be interesting to see how the company supercharges its hero product, which has not received a significant refresh for several years. The original model was released in late 2016, and the second was released in 2018. There will be accessories for Studio 3, which will include a Surface Pen, Mouse, and Keyboard with functionality upgraded keys.
